Treadlightly to take off at Motorcycle Expo

The Treadlightly Trust will be formally launching the Treadlightly! programme at the Motorcycle Expo at the NEC from 24th to 26th January.

The programme which aims to make trail riding and driving more socially acceptable by educating users to be more environmentally aware is sponsored by the three main Motorised User Groups and the Countryside Council for Wales.

The purpose of attending the show is create an awareness within the UK motorcycle industry of the issues facing motorised recreation and to enlist industry support in influencing users to behave responsibly and with environmental sensitivity.

A number of historical routes have been lost in recent legislative changes and others are currently under threat of closure due to their poor condition. The Treadlightly! team hope that by educating users and facilitating maintenance activities they will be able to retain and improve the route network for future generations.

Treadlightly! aims to build a network of volunteers and equip them with the skills and equipment required to undertake ongoing maintenance and restoration of these routes in partnership with local authorities and environmental groups.

It is hoped that key players within the motorcycle industry will get involved in supporting the programme both financially and in kind.
